1 Month!

Temporarily banned from the furniture - so hanging out on the floor with her pillows and books and rockin' her "Big Girl" panties!

I'm hungry!
Last night as I sat rocking Kevin I thought - exactly one month ago at this time I was in a hospital room and Kevin was not even born!  I had just handed Kendra off to Grandma and I was really starting to work hard at getting little man here.  Then I rocked some more and sighed, I'm glad to be on this side of things, holding my sweet baby (who then let out a really stinky toot!  :-)) during a peaceful night in my home while the much needed rain tinked on the roof and thunder rumbled outside.  I'm so glad for this month with both my babies.  One still figuring out basic functions like burping and sleeping and the other going through the rite of passage into "big" girlhood - using the big potty!

After meeting with the lactation consultant I decided to go off dairy for a week to see how sensitive Kevin might be and after only 2 days he is a lot less fussy and has less gas pain.  We also learned a modified football hold position to nurse in that while not exactly easy to do discreetly, works wonderfully well for helping him handle the large volume of milk with less air.  These two things combined have made the last few nights much better for both of us.  Since he is done nursing in under 5 minutes, we can rock and burp and get back to sleep (which is comfortable to both) in under 30.  Last night he even went a 4 hour stretch and again went a 4 hour stretch this morning, so I think we are turning a corner!  During the days we are using our Moby wrap and we both love it, I am able to accomplish so much more, but still get to cuddle him and he gets to be in mommy's arms and remain upright (helps with the gas) so he is super content.  Best of all, Kendra gets to read more books with mommy and potty time is not such a frantic one handed dash either.

Nathan and I had a great moment last night when we compared notes - "did you change Kendra's panties today?", "no, did you?", "no".  She even went her whole nap without wetting her diaper!  We are still having a little trouble with #2 - it is a little traumatic to her, even though our #2 doesn't seem to bother her in the potty, hers is simply NOT cool!  She is such a funny little girl!  I think it will work itself out soon though.  The best is the other day in the checkout line at the grocery store she was yelling "Pee!  Mommy, PEE!" and making a half whine-cry for emphasis.  I yelled back "hold it Kendra, don't go in your panties, hold it!"  haha...pretty sure the store clerk thought I was nuts!  (Don't worry - she did hold it all the way home!)

The other night, Kevin was pretty fussy and he woke her up at around 9pm.  I was out in the living room in the dark and she just pitter patted down the hall and right out and said "Mommy, baby.  Hunry!"  So we went into the kitchen to get her a snack, she was hungry and her excuse for getting up was the baby making noise...haha.  Kevin dropped his pacifier and she ran over to me, leaned down, found it and handed it back up to me before going to her high chair and repeating "Hunry".  It was so sweet how she helped me find the pacifier and waited patiently for her snack.  She is always trying to bring me things now, since I often am sitting nursing.  She especially likes to bring me Kevin's things.  If you tell her not to it really crushes her - you have to acknowledge to her that you know she was trying to help, even though no, she can't bring your half full mug of hot coffee to you!  :-)  Her sweet disposition is something I really hope she keeps into her adult life.  It is such a delightful aspect of her personality (and let me tell you, she's got personality - oh the drama I'm in for!).

Loving it! Sounds like you're doing awesome, though I can't imagine potty training with a 1-month-old in tow! ;)
